Core Control for Dancers

Friday 25th April 2025 | 13:00 - 15:00

Studio 1 | Danceworks Studios - 62 King Street, Palmerston North, 4410

Core control for dancers combines Pilates & mindful movement methods with turning and spinning techniques to foster balance and control while dancing.

The first part of the workshop will be spent looking at core engagement, warm up techniques, and breathing and movement strategies to support our dancing. The second part of the workshop will focus on spins, turns and balances and how we can build some of what we've practiced into our dancing. Here, we will look at barrel turns, spinning on relevé, as well as balancing on one leg or static relevé. This uses a raqs sharqi perspective but techniques are adaptable to different dance styles.

Things to consider before you book: This workshop will involve spinning. The first part will use a yoga mat, so please bring one if you can, a handful will be available to borrow. It will also require getting up and down from the floor.
